Daryl Hall and John Oates Greatest Hits
This was inspired by my introduction to this fantastic duo by Sanjay (my cousin). He used to have an eclectic taste in music and when I went visiting him once when he was on vacation from IIT, Madras, I saw this tape by Hall and Oates titled 'H2O'. It took me a while to get it - Hall to Oates!
The one song by Hall and Oates to die for was their 'Maneater' which I heard so many times at Vidyuth's parties. Years later I discovered another great number by these two - 'Family Man'. I heard it at Vidyuth's parties but never knew who sang them.

Vidyuth's parties were some of the most happening then in the mid 80s. I was a total misfit, not used to any partying - no drinking, no girls, no dancing. All I knew was the music. There would be a lot of hip girls and boys getting drunk and dancing the night away while I found a corner with a couple of my cricketer friends, not heeding the advice of others to go find myself a girl. That's where I saw how the party progresses - no one comes at 8 as invited, then they slowly start trickling in, 10 is when the crowd becomes good sized. The girls all dressed up, pretty, smelling good, laughing nervously, the guys drinking, decked up in their best colognes and clothes, music playing loudly in the background, people hitting the floor, lights going off and then it's just some heady environment. By now people are getting drunk, finding dark nooks, cops coming sometimes. And at some point in the night, the music changes and there come the slow numbers. This is when the slow dancing happens and its the most awaited part of the evening, where one can hold the lady by her waist and dance the night away. having seen how the hip parties take place we replicated a few in our own way later during the final year at OU Engineering College. One famous party was on which we the seniors threw for the juniors at Vardha's garage. That was a fun party!
Listened to Hall and Oates so many times and loved their music. Hmm, dedicated to Sanjay, who introduced me to H2O.
