Gold Disc 86 - UK Now 40
This one is brilliant. I do not recall exactly where we bought it, though I suspect it must have been Sangeet Sagar. And it was gifted to me by my cousin V. Venkateswara Rao, who is one of the finest, most polite of human beings I have ever known. VV as we called him used to live with us for long stretches of time - once when I was in my 10th class - I remember it so clearly because he came with me to get my marks certificate and was quite encouraging when my maths marks were not top class. He would share our room with us and regale us with stories of his days at the Andhra University as a post graduate student of genetics. There was a lady there called Zeenat Jahan whom he loved dearly but could never express himself. He would tell us all sorts of stories about the campus and his life in Vizag and Vizianagaram.
He was one of my mom's close confidantes and would arrive on the spot if she even thought of him. He came again in 1986 and stayed with us, perhaps he was writing some exams or something. That's when he gifted me this and actually wrote that 'presented by V Venkateshwara Rao 15/5/86'. What a lovely memory.
And what a lovely tape. Some completely new sounds like 'Every time you go away' by Paul Young, 'Won't you hold my hand now by King, 'Smooth Operator' by Sade, 'You spin me around like a record' by Dead or Alive, 'Rockarama' by Uriah Heep, 'Raise the Flag' by Lost Loved Ones and 'Everything she wants' by Wham. It was a blockbuster tape with so many others that I did not mention and gave me lots of listening pleasure.
'Every time you go away' was a song that Subba Rao loved and for once displayed good taste in music. I took a fancy to King and 'Won't you hold my hand now'. Never heard of King again. 'Miracles' was nice too.

One of the best tapes. Dedicated to who else but the one and only VV, who never listened to a moment of western music apart from what I played in the room.
A memory I would always cherish was a postcard he sent to me with a cutout of my photo from Sportstar. One of the best and most memorable of gestures.
