Introduction of New Songs 86 - Assorted Music
This was a small shop in Shankar Mutt that sold cards and stuff and had a small collection of music too. He seemed to have cassettes of some strange brands, but interesting enough. One of my first visits here was with Subbu in our second year of engineering. Shankar Mutt was just down the road from our college - it had a pizza joint which was its only attraction - though we rarely had enough money to go and eat there.
Subbu buying something else - not cassettes - but I remember buying this one here. I was generous with whatever I had to buy music. It had a decent collection 'Take of me' by Aha, 'Separate lives' by Phil Collins, 'Say you say me' by Lionel Richie and 'I'm your man' by Wham - all known numbers. The unknown ones were 'After the Fire' by Roger Daltrey, 'Be near me' by Arcadia, 'Square room' by Al Corley, 'Lead on me' by Red Box, 'Stand by me'' by Maurice White, 'You belong to the city' by Glenn Frey, 'St Elmo's Fore' by John Farr, and 'Experience' by Diana Ross. So many new voices, new sounds. Most of them I never heard of again.
The cassette served me well because it had the kind of music that would keep going - decent stuff. 'Stand by me', 'Be near me', 'St Elmo's Fire', 'You belong to the city' are songs, the tunes of which i still remember and can hum.
