Tears for Fears - News From the big Chair

Going to the Hyderabad Industrial Exhibition was one of the big pastimes in those days in 1986 when there were no multiplexes, malls, gaming zones and pubs.

So every once in a while we'd head to the exhibition from the engineering college when we did not have anything to do - we could walk around, check out the crowd, eat some street food like caramel popcorn, fried fish, samosas and stuff like that.

It was one such trip with Sanjay - a rambling one where no one spoke much and just walked quietly soaking in the environment. That was when I saw this cassette shop and found this tape by Tears for Fears. I had heard of the group and their big hits 'Shout and 'Everybody wants to rule the world'. There were other songs too like 'Broken', 'Head over heels', 'Listen', 'Mother's talk' etc.

I remember feeling quite rich and splurging all the money I had to buy this tape (which I was not very sure of). Sanjay looked surprised at my rare display of decisiveness.

Tears for Fears had a distinct sound and nobody would ever forget that group from those days simply because the two numbers were so unique and different. Was an eclectic sound, with abstract lyrics and new sounds.

Many hours spent listening to the group. Thanks Tears for Fears (now Anjali listens to them thanks to Psych where they seem to be making fun of the group for some reason!). This tape is dedicated to the memory of the one and only Sanjay who was with me on the momentous occasion.
